It was a great day for skiing and a great day for the Rochester Adams ski program. The girls program finished 6th overall in Division I. One of the highlights of the day was Freshmen Katie Fodale earning 1st team All-State honors in the Giant Slalom with her 2nd place finish. She was 4th after the 1st run but had a blazing 2nd run to jump into the 2nd spot. The team also saw some strong runs on the day from Alyssa Fodale, Rachel Dee, Lexi Hazen, Grace Wisniewski, Addison Grake, Veronica Trevino and Kyra Heinzmann. The team will lose seniors Rachel Dee and Lexi Hazen but they return 11 for the 2021-22 season. Look for this young team to take a lot from this experience.
The boys season culminated in a state finalist trophy as they finished 2nd overall, only trailing eventual winner Traverse City West. The team trailed TCW after the morning Giant Slalom session. In that race Junior Nathan DeHart earned 1st team All-State honors with his 2nd place finish, one-tenth of a second out of 1st. Jacob Corsi, Charlie Buckmaster, and Zeke King all finished in the top 20. The afternoon session saw the boys team make a valiant run at the state title as they won the afternoon race. Zeke King and Jacob Corsi earned first team All-State honors with their 3rd and 5th place finishes. Charlie Buckmaster capped an excellent career with a 9th place finish and 2nd team All-State honors.
It truly was a banner year for the Highlanders and now the results will be immortalized in the gymnasium when the teams banner gets raised. This senior class has set a high bar for the underclassmen, and they truly will be standing on the shoulders of giants next year when they get on the top of that hill, but as Coach Jaime Jackson will tell them that only makes the view that much clearer.
