Adams’ Remini Tillotson kicked off to RHS. Rochester had the first possession. The Highlander defense forced a 3 and out with tackles made by #60 Keenan Frazier, Nick Stokan with a tackle for loss, and Dyllan Sheppard in coverage for an incomplete 3rd down pass.
Adams started its first offensive possession on the 28-yard line. The first play was a quarterback keeper by Marco DiCresce for 8 yards. Christian Schomer ran left for an 8-yard gain to get the initial first down of the season. Luke Stockoski made a 5-yard gain up the middle, then it was Schomer around the left end for another first down. With the ball on the 44-yard line, Stockoski went up the middle for 9 yards, then Schomer got another Highlander first down. The big play of the drive was a 20-yard run by Brendan Green down to the 4-yard line. ADAMS SCORED on a 1-yard keeper from DiCresce running behind Stokan and John Rittner. Tillotson’s extra point kick was good.
ADAMS 7 – ROCHESTER 0 with 4:35 left in the first quarter
Tillotson kicked off to the Falcons who returned the ball to the 33 to start. AHS forced another 3 and out on defense, with big tackles made by DiCresce, Sheppard and Andrew Rolfs.
Adams’ second possession started at their own 35-yard line. The Highlanders quickly gained 30 yards in four plays with runs by Green, Stockoski, DiCresce and Schomer. After several shorter runs, Schomer picked up a big first down on 4th and 2. After a penalty, DiCresce picked up a big 13-yard gain with a key block from Finn Tobiczyk to make it 2nd and 6. Highlanders again converted on 4th down and 4, with a DiCresce run off right tackle for 10 yards. Stockoski would then run the ball up the middle for the remaining 13 yards and … Touchdown Highlanders! Tilloston’s PAT was good, with help from Stockoski’s snap and Max Cibor’s hold.
ADAMS 14 – ROCHESTER 0 with 6:14 left in the second quarter
An RHS kick returner was stopped with some good gang tackling and they started their next possession at the 34-yard line. After a few big runs, the Falcons got the ball inside the Highlander 20-yard line. The defense would then tighten up. RHS would be limited to short gains on first and second with tackles made by Drew Brown, Rolfs and Mohid Imran. Incomplete passes on 3rd and 4th were thanks to solid pass coverage provided by Schomer and Josh Vokal.
Adams took over at their own 20. The Highlanders advanced the ball to the 50 with multiple runs by DiCresce, Schomer, Green and Stockoski. With time running down in the first half, DiCresce attempted a long pass down the right sideline but it was intercepted by RHS at the 13-yard line. RHS would be limited to one play before the end of the half.
Halftime Score: ADAMS 14 – ROCHESTER 0
RHS kicked off to start the second half, giving Sheppard a 14-yard return to the 42-yard line.
With a short gain on the first down and a face mask penalty on RHS, Adams moved the ball across midfield with a 1st and 10 from the 28-yard line. With running plays by DiCresce, Green, and Stockoski, the Highlanders continued to move the ball down field. On a key 4th and 8, DiCresce scrambled to pick up a 1st and 10 from the 16-yard line. On second down, Brendan Green took it to the house for a 15-yard TD run, set up with great blocks from Rittner and Cibor. The PAT by Tilloston was good.
ADAMS 21 – ROCHESTER 0 with 5:23 left in the third quarter
After a short kick return, RHS started at 1st and 10 from their own 39-yard line. RHS would gain 5 on a first-down run. On 2nd and 5, Vokal broke through the line for a key tackle to set up a 3rd and 4 situation. The RHS running back was stopped for a short gain by DiCresce and Imran. RHS would convert on 4th down and continue to advance the ball down the field with a series of running plays. The Falcons wide receiver converted on a diving catch on 4th down to set up a first and goal. RHS scored its first points of the game on second and goal with a short run up the middle. The PAT attempt was blocked by Frazier.
ADAMS 21 – ROCHESTER 6
After a kick out of bounds, Adams had the ball first at their own 35-yard line. DiCresce gained 10 yards on first down and the 3rd quarter expired with Adams winning 21-6.
In the fourth quarter, after a penalty, DiCresce picked up another 13 yards and then Drew Brown carried the ball up the middle and across the 50-yard line for a first down conversion. Green would then pick up 2 yards, and 10 yards on consecutive carries. DiCresce gained 9 yards and 3 yards on consecutive carries. The Highlanders picked up key 4th down conversion on a 6-yard Drew Brown run, taking the ball down to the 16-yard line. DiCresce picked up 9 on the right side for first and goal. A penalty on first down would back the Highlanders up to the 21-yard line. After a 9-yard sweep to Green and short gain from Shomer, the Highlanders were looking at 4th and goal from the 8. A hard run on 4th by Schomer would come up just short and RHS took over on downs from their own 2-yard line.
RHS would advance the ball to the 30 with several runs and pass plays. On first down, DiCresce intercepted the RHS pass at the 40-yard line and returned it all the way for the defensive score. The PAT was good.
ADAMS 28 – ROCHESTER 6
Tillotson kicked to the 20, and RHS was stopped at the 23-yard line with a great special teams tackle by Ryan Kevelighan.
Adams limited the RHS gains on the last 4 plays before the clock expired with tackles from Peyton Montour, Alex Fahy, Kyle Trimboli, Kevelighan and Amir Habib.
